Do I need a women's-specific hockey shoe?
Not always. Women's-specific shoes like the adidas Fabela range and the Grays Aero Cage XW10 are built on a women's last. Grays describe theirs as having a narrower heel, less volume through the midfoot and a tapered toe box, and lots of women find that gives a more secure fit.
Others are perfectly happy in a unisex shoe such as the adidas Adipower, the Mizuno Wave Panthera 2 or the Osaka Kai. Go with whichever holds your heel and midfoot securely without pinching your toes.
Which adidas Fabela should I choose?
- Fabela X 2: adidas' top women's shoe, built for lightweight speed, comfort and stability. Our best-selling women's shoe by some distance.
- Fabela Zone 3: the club performance shoe, with a TPU torsion bar for stability on sharp turns and a breathable mesh upper.
- Fabela Rise 2: the most affordable Fabela, with a comfortable cushioned midsole. A great first proper hockey shoe.
Is there a women's Grays hockey shoe?
Yes, the Aero Cage XW10. It has the same A.S.C outsole and Genius Foam midsole as the Aero Cage X10, on Grays' women's-specific Comfort Fit last. It's also very good value for a shoe at that level.
Sizing tips
- Try shoes on with hockey socks. They're thicker than everyday socks.
- The 2026/27 Fabela range starts at UK 4. Smaller feet might find a better fit in our girls' hockey shoes.
- Grab a bargain. Last season's Fabela colours are often in our hockey shoe sale.
