Do kids need proper hockey shoes?
Not for their very first session, but once they're playing every week, yes. Hockey is played on artificial pitches (sand-based or water-based) that can be slippery in everyday trainers. Hockey shoes have outsoles made to grip on those surfaces and more support for quick changes of direction, and many have a reinforced toe area for a bit of extra protection.
Which junior hockey shoe should I choose?
adidas Youngstar 2 and Youngstar Rise

How should junior hockey shoes fit?
- Leave about a thumb's width at the toe. Buying two sizes up to grow into makes the shoe loose and unstable.
- Try them on with hockey socks, which are thicker than everyday socks.
- Check the fit every season. Young feet grow quickly.
